I am 69 years old, happy married and with three grown up children and in a relatively good heath. And this lasted, till last July, 2009, for since then I started having symptoms of light heads, dizziness and only lately, vertigo I have to add, I am not in any medication and I was not when all this began. So during this period, I have been to the doctor three times. They ordered me, in turn, to have blood pressure taken [I have history of low blood pressure] daily, blood test, and Echo/Ultrasound:- E1 Colour Doppler Echocardiograph, which I did not follow, because I did not think it was necessary. [This between us: I have to say that I mistrust all doctors and modern medicine. I really think that today doctors are mainly drug pushers and working for the drug pharmaceutical companies rather than for the benefit of their patients.] All the testes done, the doctors did not find anything abnormal in me, except for a bit high in cholesterol count. The last doctor that examined me last time, said: “I know that you don’t like medication. Thus you should follow a diet.” He did not say, though, what sort of diet I should follow. Never mind about that, I have been dieting for almost half of my whole life. I fast three times a week. Monday: only one meal in the evening; Wednesday: the same, and Friday: no food at all, but only a cup of coffee in the morning. As a family, we never ate much meat. My diet consist mostly of row vegetable, some fish, pasta; but no white bread, no white sugar, no white rice. To continue, last Friday, very early in morning - I was in bed -, I experienced for the first time in my life, two episodes of vertigos. I got real frightened, but I did not say anything to my wife. That morning my wife was due to leave for Sydney by train and I did not want her to worry unnecessarily about me. Then in the afternoon, I went to rest in my bedroom. I had just touched the pillow with my head when I was stricken by another two episodes of vertigo I saw the room spinning round me, clock wise, for several seconds. Thus I got up and sat on the bed, but the spinning did not stop, but only after one or two minutes after that. I felt sick and dizzy all day. At night, I had another couples of episodes, but less severe. The following day, Saturday, early in the morning, I went for a walk, as usual I do, but very anxious, for I expected maybe this was my last day on earth. So I decided to investigate on Internet what was wrong with me. That is how I came across the name VERTIGO, the most apparent and closer to my ailment. On the net, I read a document, which explained about vertigo and spinning. The gist of the writing was that because of an ear infection - I had a mastoid, 37 years ago - probably might be one of the causes of my vertigo now and the need to reestablish balance within the inner ear which contains the organ of balance, etc. It recommended a serial of exercises which I am at the moment following. That is my story. I hope I did not bore any of the readers of this forum with my chatter. God Bless, Comments
