Feeling Dead (and wishing I was!)

The first time I experienced vertigo, I thought I was dying. I had virtually no pain at all, just an ongoing feeling of detachment, dizziness extreme fatigue, feeling that my limbs were made of lead while at the same time floating instead of walking (on legs I couldn’t feel anyways). My doctor said I either had a brain tumor or vertigo. I decided vertigo was the lesser of the 2 evils, and he did some balance tests and hence the diagnosis. I had always thought that vertigo was some crazy, rich ladies’ anomaly, made up to explain away the onset of old age. But I was only 36 at the time! I have never in my life felt such extreme and total fatigue as when I have vertigo.

I just had an attack last week that I am just getting over. At first I didn’t know what it was. I was thinking diabetes because I was so dead feeling and my vision was blurring (which did not happen in other attacks). I have 5 kids and 5 in a day-care setting and along with feeling the effects of vertigo, I felt utter doom and defeat. I take meclizine hydrochloride for dizziness (which does absolutely no good at all) and a prescription for nausea and dizziness (which also does no good at all) and do alot of laying down. My symptoms are almost to the “t” and all-inclusive of those listed on the vertigo home page here. But I didn’t have the ringing in my ears.

It’s amazing that so many people have this dysfunction and there is really nothing simple that can be done for it. I sincerely believe that my vertigo is the result of the one ear infection that I have had in my life. It was an inner ear infection and it was a doozy! Other people that get vertigo that I have spoken to have had inner ear infections also. If anyone out there has any good way to make the duration of this any shorter than 7-10 days I’d love to hear about it!
