To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download don’t wait and advocate for yourself I am a 25 year old female who had my first experience with vertigo at 15. While walking in the mall, i suddenly felt as if the room was spinning and had to sit down. within an hour i was vomiting profusely and was admitted to the hospital. I passed out shortly after i was admitted. i woke up with an IV and still felt extremely nauseous. for the next 5 days i continued to lie in the hospital bed vomiting, hearing “whooshing noises,” and feeling completely fatigued while doctors told my parents i “just had a bad flu” On the 5th day when i began complaining of hearing loss in my right ear a specialist was brought in. he diagnosed me with an inner ear infection and prescribed steroids and meclizine. for approximately another month i felt dizzy when moving my head or standing up too quickly. I also now have permanent hearing loss (98%) in my right ear. This is extremely frustrating since i am a musician. My specialist has told me that if the infection had been caught sooner, i would probably still have my hearing. every few months i have a sudden attack of vertigo- usually while riding in the car or when typing on the computer. the attacks last a few days at a time, and nothing other than lying perfectly still seems to make me feel any better. In fact i found this site because i am currently experiencing an attack and have been looking for any ideas on how to minimize the discomfort. If you experience vertigo get to the doctor! Comments
