central vertigo

I woke up with vertigo, (had to crawl to the bathroom) 9 years ago and went through the usual work-up with an ENT, and I had several tentative diagnosis; labrythnitis, benign vertigo etc. The ear specialists ended up with the dx of “central” vertigo, and referred me to neuro-opthalmogy. The brain tests, evoked potentials, etc. confirmed the diagnosis, (U-waves in particular). I am dizzy all the time, and it is worse when I’m in motion, from driving to walking the grocery store aisle. Jerky tv shows, movies are intolerable. I had the rehab, and something helped because I learned to walk with my eyes shut, and my balance is very much improved.

However, I have what feels like cotton stuffed between my eyes, in my head. That is the baseline resting “vertigo”. (I finally figured out what the “rolly-polly eyes” was all about, nystagmus. ) When I get up and move around, I have additional symptoms, primarily true vertigo I think it has affected my IQ, and I even had that and other tests done. I’ve also had bi-lateral, very high tinnitus for 19 years. I have the usual hearing loss of my age. I am very sensitive to loud noises, and don’t do well with music- as it just gets the ears ringing worse. I’ve tried all sorts of medicine, and nothing works. Any ideas out there for central vertigo?
