I’ve been dealing with my vertigo for 20 months and counting. Mine started with an ear ache, followed by a trip to the urgent care doctor. I was given an antibiotic and expected to recover quickly. Instead, the pain increased hourly. 2 days later, I called my internist office. They said to hold off another day before seeing the doctor in hopes that the antibiotics would start working. On the 3rd day, I called again and they scheduled me to see the physician-assistant who diagnosed me with a “middle” ear infection and prescribed antibiotic eardrops. Again, the pain increased hourly. 3 more days, and I noticed visual changes on the outer ear (chickenpox type sores). The internist referred me to an ENT who immediately diagnosed me with SHINGLES in cranial nerve #7 (aka “Ramsay Hunt Syndrome”). The doc immediately prescribed anti-viral drugs and steroids. That night, my world began to SPIN out of control. I wasn’t able to even walk to the bathroom, or hold my head up. The left side of my face was then paralized and no hearing. Since, I have gotten 50% of the hearing back and almost a full recovery of the facial movement. I’ve had extensive “vestibular” rehab with much improvement in my balance. The down-side is that my world continues to “SPIN” and I always feel “DRUNK”. The pain level is controlled with meds. Each day I pray that I’ll wake up to the world that once existed before “vertigo”. Keep the faith because God does answer prayer..I do believe He’ll answer mine! Comments
