Vertigo has to be the worse thing to have

I have suffered with vertigo since I was a teenager, I am now in my late 40’s, I thought they had finally stopped as I had no attacks for many years, but, now, they are back again, and I do think it is heriditary, my aunt used to get them. This last attack has lasted the longest, it’s been close to a month now, and the one I had this morning was the worse I have ever had. Although this time the symptoms seem to be different, I noticed it when I went to put eye drops in my eyes, the same old spinning came back, and now it only does it when I put my head back, I know, just don’t put your head back….today I did that, and it started spinning and it wouldn’t stop.
Normally it lasts only a few seconds, I called out to my husband and I had to lean on him because I was spinning so bad, and he got me to calm down and breathe slowly, and it did help, I do believe that vertigo is caused by stress, and it can lead to a panic attack, which I was definitely having, after about five minutes the bad spinning stopped but I was drenched in my own sweat, I was trying to throw up but nothing would come up, then 20 minutes later it stopped.
I still feel like I have a headache on one side of my face, but anything is better than the spinning. I am glad I found this site, as I now know that I’m not alone in this awful thing. I have heard all the same things as all of you, taking Meclizine doesn’t work for me. My doctor used to tell me I just had to wait it out. I have found that taking a decongestant like Claritin D before I go to bed, keeps me from getting too congested in the mornings and keeps the spinning down.

If vertigo happens only when you tilt your head and lasts only a few seconds, that's likely BPPV. This kind of vertigo has a treatment called Epley's ...Read

I have experienced occasional (quite seldom)vertigo for 25 or 30 years, but have never taken any advice for medication advised by the Dr. A couple years ago I experienced a serious, unpleasant (but very successful) surgery to remove a large brain tumor.

Melissa’s symptoms sound exactly like what I experienced as a child well into adulthood (now 60). From a sound sleep I would awaken with severe vertigo or dizziness accompanied by a very rapid heartbeat, which I believe was simply the fear accompanied with the vertigo symptoms.
