As the morning progressed, he felt worse and worse, and after church, was so dizzy and nauseated that he had me drive, and he was in agony on the ride home (and threw up in the garage as soon as we stopped). I thought it was food poisoning or something, and thought he would sleep it off, and also thought throwing up would “feel better”. When 8 hours passed, and two doses of anti-nauseants had done nothing to alleviate his extreme dizziness and he couldn’t keep down anything, we both started to feel scared that something was horribly wrong. I’d been poring over every story on this wonderful board, and several people had posts related to BPPV and the “maneuvers” that could be done. With countless stories about how drugs DIDN’T work for people, and mechanical manipulation DID work, I started feeling like that’s what we should try, rather than spend hours or weeks with doctors, MRIs, CTs, drugs, co-pay co-pay co-pay….hopelessness. It was Labor Day (!), but I followed the recommended link on the www.acnb.org called “Doctor Locator”, called one close to us who had an after hours emergency number, and he called back and agreed to see my husband! The Chiro. Neur. determined that D had a huge imbalance of muscle tone between his right and left sides. D had dislocated his right shoulder 15 years ago, and favored away from it so much since then that his neck was now pulled to one side, and the ongoing compensation had aggravated several nerves, eventually radiating into his neck and inner ear causing vertigo — ta da! He made some adjustments to D, and D was able to walk out of the office, “a little groggy, but not as dizzy”. He even ate normally the rest of the day. We went for a second chiro. treatment today, and D feels about 90% — still more tired than usual, but totally able to move and keep his eyes open. This is a total miracle to me considering how incapacitated he was on Sunday. Though I am certain that many cases of vertigo are related to infections or inflammation or other chemical reasons, I really encourage other sufferers to watch for mechanical reasons. I will be eternally grateful to this web-site and the people who mentioned Chiropractic Neurology, because it helped us not to have a story including suffering non-stop for weeks or months or years, series of MRIs, CTs, etc that show nothing…endless courses of prescriptions that do nothing but cause annoying side effects…. Drugs are the answer when it is a problem that can be helped by drugs…but drugs won’t do anything when it’s a mechanical/positional problem. Thank you to our amazing Chiropractic Neurologist, and to this message board!! Comments
