I get so mad

by: Apache Savage on Wed, Jul 02 2008

I get so mad when I see all the vertigo entries with the first experience in 2008 and they are already diagnosed. Vertigo a lot of them say. In fact all of the one’s I read just said Vertigo and say they were treated for vertigo - and that scares me. It makes me feel there is no hope because vertigo is a symptom or a side affect, if you will, of an underlying problem. No one on this board seems to have been told or have found what the underlying problem is that is causing their vertigo. My first experience was in 1988. Everything faded to black from my peripheral vision inward. Sounds also faded and I began falling to the floor. Then is 1996 I just sat down at the dining room table to have lunch when all of a sudden I felt like I was shoved in the middle of my upper back between my shoulder blades, then the table was violently thrown upward from one side. My knee jerk reaction was to slam the table down to prevent injury and losing my lunch. All of this was so fast I could not make sense of it but thought it was an earthquake. I was awe-struck when my hands touched the table and I could tell by touch that it had not moved at all. Then as it lowered back to the floor in my vision the whole world began to swirl like a drop of color in mixing paint. Fade to black started creeping in. I forced my way to the phone to call a neighbor. By the time he arrived I was ok but freaked out. Doc said it was hiccups. Sometimes I can’t believe the stupid crap that comes out of their mouths. Fast forward to 2001, after having my 3rd child I was sitting on the loo trying hard to get the bowels in full function again (can be a problem after child birth by C-Section.) I felt an extra sharp pain in my back between my shoulder blades. The pain knocked the breath out of me as it forcefully shoved my upper body forward, then the pain traveled down my spine and back up again. As it reached the area between my shoulder blades I was shoved forward and had my breath knocked out of me. Each time it traveled down my spine I would gasp for air to prepare for the next blow. The pain began traveling faster and faster until I could no longer gasp a breath of air. I realized I could die and got up in an attempt to call or reach my husband before I passed out. I caught a look at myself in the mirror. My eyes were bulging, my lips were blue/purple and my face was redder than anything I’ve ever seen. Husband came in at that moment and was asking questions but soon realized I couldn’t breathe. He laid me down on my side and slowly rolled me over onto my back and the pain slowed and then stopped.

2004 standing in the kitchen talking to my son the floor suddenly rushed up to meet me at about 120 miles per hour. I reached out my hands to break my fall and was astounded to find that I was holding onto the counter top, not the floor and I was still standing. Swirl, spin, weeeeeeeeeeee. This happened at least once a week for a few months. Then one morning I woke to the spinning sensation one gets when one is inebriated and lie down and close one’s eyes. I, unlike most people, always liked that feeling so I sleepily thought, weeeeeeeeeeeee! Then I opened my eyes and everything was spinning as if I had just been twirling my self in circles, only it didn’t stop. I called my husband and asked him if my eyes were moving from the forward position to one side and back again. He confirmed that they were. This one lasted 2 - 4 hours. I still have pretty constant episodes of the spinning and whirling and falling sensations/hallucinations. I saw an audiologist to check for Meniere’s but he sad I didn’t have that. He gave me some silly eye exercises that did nothing at all. I have been to so many doctors and none of them seem to know even as much as I do. I am so frustrated and angry because I can’t get any real help, just a fist full of stupid doctors (not saying doctors are stupid, just the one’s I have been to see.) I have a whole lot of other symptoms to go with my vertigo but no doctor has ever been able to connect the dots so far. A diagnoses of vertigo at this point would be the same as a diagnoses of breathing. It’s pretty obvious that I have vertigo, but I want to know what is causing it and be cured. I don’t want to take drugs to mask symptoms that are given to us as a warning that something is wrong and ignore it until it is a huge health issue or the drugs prescribed to treat symptoms end up damaging my liver over the years upon years of taking them. I am skipping the regular docs and when I wake up in the morning I am scheduling an appointment with a neurologist. I’m scared. And my right ear just went silent and then started ringing. I’m scared to find out what is wrong but I’m scared to let it go any longer, too. Pray for me.
