My Story…27 years ill and finally free!

I hope my story may help someone. I used to look on the web constantly in hopes to find something to help myself in other peoples experiences.
I had Terrible episodes of vertigo for 27 years. They began seemingly out of nowhere when I was 8 years old. No real other symptoms other than the nausea etc that comes with the room violently spinning so that all I could do was lay on my back…usually for a full 24 hours until it would stop. It was fairly infrequent at first…maybe once or twice a year. But by the time I was about 15-16 years old, maybe 5-6 times per year and wow, nearly monthly by the time I was 20. I was never really checked by a dr. until I was an adult. I was taken care Of by a foster family that just left me in a room all day ( that is a seperate tale, they weren’t a very good family and didn’t give me good care when I was young) So It was off to the dr in my 20’s getting diagnosed with anxiety possible seisures, the drs that told me it was “all in my head”, and finally menieres. I really thought they must have it figured out when they gave me that diagnosis. But the diazapam the prescribed just made it easier to get through a vertigo attack…didn’t really stop it. Then I got married and my new husband took me to the “best doctor in Seattle”…the one who was supposed to know everything. Well…I told him my story. And he looked at me and said ” You don’t have menieres. That is for sure. I am fairly sure you have migraines”. I said how do you know? He said “Children DO NOT get migraines. A lot of dr’s out there don’t understand that. But it is key. Your symptoms started in childhood. Therefore, I can rule it out”. I was pregnant. I went and ruled out seisures and things, but was given a prescription for topomax. And one for Imitrex. For 4 years I have not had a single attack…well, let me put it this way..I have started to have 2 and the imitrex knocked them out in 20 minutes so that I was able to get up and go about my day like nothing ever happened. Migraines can mainfest as vertigo only. That is what I learned. After 27 years. Good luck to everyone out there.

On May 19th, 2008 I woke up at 1am with severe dizziness, spinning and vomiting. At first I thought I had food poisoning or was having a heart attack I was unable to get out of bed and walk due to the spinning but was able to crawl to the bathroom and vomited on and off for hours.
