To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download 7 years of Vertigo & still spinning I am an otherwise healthy 43-year-old male that has been suffering from vertigo for years I was diagnosed with BPPV almost 7 years ago. My first episode was more than seven years ago. I was awakened in the night and rose from bed to find the room turning sideways and my self, almost instantaneously, falling to the floor. The incident came and went without a second thought. It was almost a year later before the second incident. It came on in the same manner. I was rising from bed in the morning and found the room spinning. I became incapacitated and began vomiting. The extreme symptoms lasted several hours. The extreme symptoms will also bring on a panic attack. The “vertigo hangover”, as I refer to it, lasts days but I eventually felt I was back to 100%. These attacks persisted for three years and came about every six months. As best I could tell it was only triggering when I was laying down with my head turned to the left. Some times I would wake up to a spinning room in the middle of the night. I visited several doctors including the clinic at Mass Eye & Ear on two occasions over the next two years. They performed a battery of tests and were not able to pinpoint a definitive source for the condition. I was told that they would need three documented episodes. This would consist of me having three full attacks in their presence. I also visited an optometrist and was prescribed reading glasses. The reading glasses so far only seam to aggravate the symptoms but I am forcing myself to use them more and see if in the long run it helps. Since that last visit to Mass Eye & Ear Infirmary, almost two years ago, I have not had a “full blown” attack with vomiting but I do suffer on a daily basis, from the following symptoms: Dizziness The last few symptoms I listed are brought on when I am anticipating stimuli that I feel trigger the symptoms. Such stimuli might be watching a movie at the theatre with my children, watching a TV program with flashing lights, a train ride, a plane flight, long car rides and the like. Very recently I find the symptoms are more frequent and I feel I’m becoming more sensitive to many stimuli. On a recent car ride I awoke nauseous from a short nap in the front seat. That was a first. I get depressed thinking about all the little things I am not able to do with my kids anymore like enjoy small rides at a town fair or water park activities. Fishing from a boat with family or friends is unthinkable. Today I am resuming the search for answers and relief. Any help you could give will be greatly appreciated. I have since become dependent on Lorazapam to function in my daily life. Gary Comments
