Survied Iraq and 10 days later!!!

by: Patrick Kertson on Fri, Apr 11 2008

I had just returned from Iraq 10 days before I had my TBI in March of 2005. I spent 14 months in Iraq and survived it, just leaving a small piece of myself over there. I had gone down to Flordia for a small get away with my best friend and went to Universal Studios Orlando. I had been drinking so I do not really know what had happened to my full knowlege.

I fell over the side of an ecelator about 19 feet. I fell on the left side of my head. Crushed the left side, a subderal hemetoma on my brain. I also crushed 3 of my vertibre and my right hand to boot. I was in accoma for 9 days, and don’t remember 10 hours before my fall. I do remember waking up and seeing my sister and now ex-wife sitting by my bed side and wondering what had happend. I don’t really remember the next couple of days about 7 after that either.

It is now 2008 and I still have problems with it. I lost my carreer in the Army. I had been in for 12 years. A infantry squad leader, Army Recuiter, on assignment to be a Drill Sergeant, and planning to do Special Forces (Green Baret). I have been out of the Army for 2 years now and 3 years post injury. I cannot focus on studies, I got divorced and I have 2 little boys that I have to take care of also. I don’t have a job and cannot find one that will accept me.
