4 YEAR SURVIOR

I was diganosed January 2003 with stage III colon cancer, appoximately 1/3 of my colon was removed, the tumor was on the right and was 2×3 inches. I had 4 colonoscopies with the last being July 2001, I was 51 years old and somehow they never found it or didn’t look far enough since it was near the end of my colon. They said my symptons were not consistent with colon cancer, I alternated constipation with direarra [diarrhea] could not stand any pressure on my stomach, could not even bend over long enough to tie my shoes without getting sick, my stools looked like ribbons.

The good news, I am four years out, I had a wonderful surgeon and think I am doing very well, I still have the constipation, direrra [diarrhea] at least once a week but I don’t wear a bag and you learn to carry extra underwear, control sometimes is not good.
I feel like its not over since they found it in my lymph nodes but I try not to worry, at least I got four more years. If I had not changed doctors I would probably not be here as they would not do any more tests, my new doctor found it on the cat scan due to its size. Don’t give up if your sick, it took me three years to get someone to listen to me.

  • NHL-but I thought it was just a sore knee! - by LS - (Mon, Jul 09 2007)
In 2003, I twisted my right knee when tripping over a step. It continued to hurt when I exercised but I just took my Tylenol and went on. Then, in January 2006, after getting up and down from my knees over several hours, my right knee was quite swollen and tender. “Well, I better get this seen, I may need an excuse for work!” My orthopedist ordered an MRI “Let’s make sure its just a strain” but then he called me that same evening to sat he needed to repeat it, with contrast media, because “it looks like a lymphoma”.
