Make sure you know the warning signs of a stroke

by: TM on Fri, May 09 2008

My husband, 38yrs old was having a stroke and the hospital didn’t know. He had numbness in his left hand and they determined that it was a pinched nerve. We then went home and about 2 hours later the numbness went into the left side of his face. We went back to the hospital and they made us sit in the waiting room for 4 hours before my husband started getting upset and wanted to go home. I went ahead and took him home because if the hospital didn’t think it was anything important then why should I? This was until the next morning when he went to get up and couldn’t walk.

The clot was not there the first time we went to the hospital, but I’m questioning if it would of shown up in blood test or the second time that we were there. Could they have given him the TPA to stop the clot? No one knows. Now with me living through all of this I would of not taken him back to the same hospital I would of driven him another 30 minutes to a different one. It is very important for everyone to know the warning signs of a stroke because the hospitals don’t.

I want to tell you that the damage done to him is very hard to live with not only for him but for our whole family. It has taken away his manhood by not being able to support his family the way he always did. Unable to keep a job due to his lack of energy, doctor’s appointments, and memory loss he has sat at home for over a year now. If he would of gotten the TPA he wouldn’t be in the shape he’s in now and I blame myself for not pushing the hospital to do their job and giving my husband the care that he needed. On the other side I didn’t know the warning signs of a stroke.
