I’m still walking…that God!!

Back in 1993, my spinal cord was difussing on its own and had to be surgically fused back together. Unfortunately, my right side was temporarily paralyzed (later extremely weak)and my left hand, arm, foot and leg were very weak. I had to learn to do everything with my non-dominant side. (It’s not easy feeding yourself with the other hand, unless you’re ambidextrous.)

I progressed greatly through the years. I was an angel when I had to wear a halo for more spinalcord surgery in 1998. I got to the point where I could walk on streets, parking lots, grassy areas with a straight cane. In the early 2000s I walked around my house without a cane. One day about 2 1/2 years ago, my husband and I walked a 5k. I was using my cane, but I took a terrible fall and jarred my spinal cord. My doctor told me I can never take a chance like that again. I don’t walk as steady as I did before the fall, I walk with a walker. But I’ll be darned….I’m walking and someday they’ll be a cure for spinal cord injuries!
