Spinal Cord tumor

I am a 46 year old woman who have always taken pride in being healthy, exercising and eating right. I raised four children and work with my husband in ministry, as a pastor’s wife. I lived an active life, traveling and working on my master degree. After having suffered with back pain for about three months and then some weakness and numbness in my legs, I went to the emergency room one restless painful night. I was given a MRI and told that I had a tumor lodged in my spinal cord.
That day my life was changed. I had surgery on February 7, 2007 to remove the tumor. I woke up as a paralyzed from my. Today six months later, afte chest to my toes. After going through rehabilation physical therapy I have recovered some strength and mobility in my legs, where I can used a walker. I still experience numbness from my chest down to my toes with very little feeling and sensation here and there with spasticity in my legs. I take nerve pain medicine, stool softners, B complex and muscle relaxers. I have about 50% control in my bowl and bladder. My questions have been,” Can I look to gain more feeling in my legs and chest area?” and “How long can my recovery process take?” I need to understand more about what I suffer.

In June 2006 I took a fall where I hit the corner of a half wall, bounced down, hit the water fountain and finally landed on my back. The initial diagnosis was lumbar sprain and bruised pelvic bone. I was given pain medicine and injections in the area of my back where the spasms were bad. [more..]
