Query Pleuridisis for Quadriplegia

My hisband is a 56 year old C5/C6 Quadriplegic and has been since 1982. He has had reasonable health with other problems but until Christmas last year free of any lung problems at all…some sort of a miracle for a Quad.

He developed fluid on his right lung and in early April 11th - was flown to the coty hospital by air ambulance as our small hospital could not deal with this.

I drove down behind him only to find he had already been operated on when I arrived. It was not an emergency at all as it was a slow build up.

I was later informed that the Lung Specialist had performed a Pleuridisis on him at the time of draining the fluid.

End result a series of Respiratory arrests, a buggered up lung which is too damaged to contemplate, now a continual build up of fluid on the previously clear left lung, with no “diagnosis” as to where this has come from.

It is unlikely my husband will survive this assault and the ICU doctors were disturbed at his being given this procedure because of his limited lung capacity and his Quadriplegia.

I would like to know if others have heard of giving this procedure to a Quad.

I don’t have the emotional energy to deal with this all now but need to know what people think about this…and any input would be appreciated.
