26 yo female diagnosed with RSD Nerve Block 09 09 09
by: Faith
on Tue, Aug 18 2009
About 2 years ago I decided to be really brave and snowboard down an extremely high and difficult mountain. Not the best idea since I hit some ice and couldn’t stop myself. My husband was yelling for me to bail out before going over the cliff, so I threw myself backwards and my snowboard got twisted up underneath me and I banged my head pretty hard (all the while still sliding down the mountain…) I had messed up my knee and had a lateral release done about 8-9 months ago and had some miniscus tears repaired.
After months and months of agonizing physical therapy I STILL HURT. From my hip all the way to my ankle and foot. The pain is constant and the only time I’m not hurting is when I finally fall asleep. Waking up in the morning is awful for me since I wake up hurting so bad I don’t want to even move. I saw many doctors who thought I was all crazy and the doctor that did my surgery just thought I want more pain meds and that I should be feeling no more pain.. I did need pain meds, but because of a ligament reason! One doctor finally turned me onto a Pain Management Specialist and I finally felt like I was being truly listened to. He said that I have all the symptoms of RSD and after a few test has decided that doing the sympathetic nerve block would be the best.
I got married on June 28th, 2009 and 2 days later was going to go swimming with my 4 year old nephew and slipped right by the edge of the pool and feel 2-3 ft into the pool and broke my “good” foot. (The only foot I hadn’t felt pain in…) I broke it in two places and a week following I began having this incredible burning sensation throughout my toes. The kind of burning that makes you want to just cry and want to cut off your toes. It’s about 6 weeks since the initial injury and I’m still in so much pain. Of course the right leg hurts even worse now because I’m having to use it all the time to compensate for the broken foot,
I’m concerned because I’m getting this horrid burning/hurt on the top part of my foot right around where I broke it. I was told by the PMS that RSD can transfer from a limb if there is trauma done to another extremity..Is it possible that’s why it seems that everyday there’s more pain in my legs and lower back?… This is worrisome and means I would have to have a lumbar sympathetic block for both sides… I am a young 26 year old that wants to get on with her life and wake up feeling young and hot instead of in pain and tired.. I just want to be me again.. Hopefully the treatment will help..

I have been living with pain for the past 2 years. It is in my left hip and left leg. No surgeries have been required for this. Dr. after dr.s have no idea. It is not my back nor is it my hip. 3 injections for my back, injection in my hip, nerve block, spinal stimulator and physical therapy have not helped at all.

In February 2009 I got a bad case of food poisoning. After four long days of being sick I finally gave in and went to the hospital. While there I had one nurse try 5 times to start an IV unsuccessfully. Then a new nurse came in to try and start the IV. The instant she inserted the needle I felt intense pain and it felt like liquid fire in my hand.
