In september 2004 i was 16 i had my first surgery to my shoulder, after my surgery i always had a sharp pain that would never go away. I would go back to the doctor and they would tell me that everything was okay it was normal to feel pain after having a major surgery..They also had me go through physical therapy and it just seemed to make it worse so i just stopped going and went about my life.
Then in august 2008 i went back to the doctor to find out they had to do another surgery on my shoulder they told me i was feeling the pain because a pin had broke. So i went ahead with the surgery. They did a pain block before surgery so i didnt have to have as much pain medications. the surgery lasted about 3 hours when I woke up the pain was like i never felt before it was very sharp and through out my whole right arm.. They sent home the same day of surgery told me it would go away after a week or so…I was back in the hospital not even 8 hours later because of the pain..the er doctor said the pain meds may not be strong enough so he gave me different meds…It made it feel a little better not much. I go back to my surgeron for a check up and i told him it still hurt really bad…He ignored it pretty much kept telling me it would go away an put me in therphy..
I did that for a about 2 weeks when the guy that was doing the physical therapy asked me about the color of my arm it was purple and cold to the touch…He told me that he felt it was best if i got a second look at my arm because it said it wasnt good…I go and see another doctor and just by looking at my arm and they way the hair growth on my arm was that it was RSD and the worst he has seen in a long time.. I was very upset because i have a 1yr old son how was i going to be able to pick him up and do all the things i wanted to do with him… He sent me to pain management doctor..they tryed everything and nothing seems to work…I still have not being able to find a doctor that can help…Im on a waiting list to get into a medical university to see a doctor but that wont be for a year…RSD is the worst thing i have had to deal with in my whole life its almost like it controls my life

My name’s Ailsa, and I’m 17. I’ve sunk really low and need to feel helpful once again, so I hope that my story can inspire others and give people hope, the way those around me have done.
In April 15th, 2005 I had a freak seizure at the school bus stop, and fell. A simple fall. That resulted in me developing CRPS (also known as RSD), in my right ankle.

I was in seventh grade taking a routine pacer test in my schools gym when my ankle turned under. i still remember the date, still remember the time, still remember limping up to my gym teacher and telling her that my ankle hurt. She just told me to sit down and wait it out. It was probably nothing. by the end of my gym class my foot was the size of a large pear and my shoe was killing me.
