Living with RSD 20 Plus years

After reading a few of these stories, I knew I needed to write, I too have RSD over 20 years, My right arm, And now my upper body has been taken over, I type with two fingers. The pain stays at about a 7 in the morning and climbs to 8 to 10 by day’s end. RSD is part of me, no choice. So, How do you deal with pain 24/7 that can and has made you depressed. Take your life back, Crying will not help you, Suck it up, Own it. It’s yours, RSD will not just magically stop one day, it will eat you alive, If you allow it to.

Look it’s not easy, No one should live in pain, Yet here we are. So what do you do? I can tell you what works for me. Who knows, I might be the answer to your prayers. Facing everyday with RSD It stole my life, Robbed me of a life that I dreamed of, And was on my way to, Then one day bang, everything changed. And yet here I sit. Over, Twenty years later, Worse pain ever in the past 6 months.

Here’s what I need you to do. First, I want you to get a really funny movie and laugh, Sing, Very Loud, Who cares if you stink at it, Sing your heart out, Buy yourself something that makes you smile, Get a hobby, Get 3 or 4 hobbies, Stay away from people that will depress you, Hang around with happy folks, Were in pain not dead, Who says we can’t laugh because we are in pain. Stay positive.

I give myself 15 minutes a month to cry and feel sorry for myself, With no carry over minutes, That’s it. I know it’s hard, Trust me, Over 20 years with RSD, with no hope of getting better I know. Now focus on what you can do, Not what you can’t. This is my chant, I am better than the pain, I am in control of my pain, The pain doesn’t control me. Breathe in through your nose hold it for 4 seconds, Breathe out through your mouth. Do this when you need to, I find myself doing this a lot. Learn boi-feed back, It helps. Ask your doctor about it. The most important thing to know is, keep positive, This is a job in itself, Being in pain is hard work, We need to learn how to live all over again. Giving up the things we all took for granted.

RSD robbed us, So now we learn how to find a new way to live, When I think back over the past 20 years, I understand the why this happened to me. We only need to look. Being new to RSD, Is the hardest, Understanding it, accepting it, takes time. I will add more to this in a few days. Need to rest. Hope this helps someone. Diane
