Learning about RSD

I’ve been reading y’alls stories and am trying to learn more about this. I broke my leg (bimalleolar) on June 5 while skating with a church youth thing. I’m 38. Single mom of 3 teens. I had surgery on June 13th, when I went back in july to have my first cast removed my rt. leg was so swollen and discollored so the dr kept me in a cast for another 4 weeks. Then gave me and equilizer walking boot which took me a while to get used to. By time I almost got used to it the doc said it was time to quit using it and he wanted me to get rid of the crutches too. That’s been almost impossible. I do have good days but mostly bad.

My last xrays looked ok. I have plates and pins in place. I feel like something else is wrong, even if the bones are healed. My skin looks reddened, Stays swollen, above my ankle is shiny and edenemous. I’ve been going through Phys. Therapy since 8/28 but still not walking. They put me in aquatics to help with my balance. Some mornings I walk in there with crutches and feel ok but once I start stretching and trying to stand on that bad leg it hurts worse and feels like I’ve pinched a nerve. I get shooting pains down my leg too.

Hot baths seem to soothe me if I do it along with a pain pill. I feel like the surgeon or therapist doesn’t understand when i try to tell them what’s going on. They make it seem like i’m trying to be difficult but i’m not. I’m an LVN so I deal with alot of illnesses and have empathy for my patients and I know my body. I know I should be walking and feeling fine by now but i’m not. I try hard and push myself to walk but it’s just not happening. My 12 weeks of medical leave is up and I don’t think I even have a job to go back to. I’m about to lose my vehicle. Ive had help thru the summer from agencies with utilities. I owe my landlords alot. They’ve been so good and understanding.

I think I should go to a regular doctor and tell them all this and see if there’s anything else going on. I don’t think I have osteomyleitis because i’m not running a fever. I have 2 buldged disk, herniated disk and degenerative disk disease I was dxed with back in 04 so that doesn’t make things easier. I should of got a handicap parking permit back in June but I didn’t think I’d be down this long. I’ll take any advice I can get at this point. Thanks.. Rebecca
