I am a very hands on mother and worked as a resturant supervisor, which I loved and was very good at. March 10, 2007 started out like any other day, I played with my babies, then they were 5,1, and 4months, then I went to work. I was doing our bi-weekly inventory at the end of the evening. I was counting full beer kegs in our cooler and suddenly slipped. I didnt have time to think and as I was falling I grabbed a keg which was stacked 2 high to steady myself. This clearly wasnt the best coarse of action, as the top keg landed directly in the middle of my left foot. A full keg weighs 385 and it fell from 3 feet so needless to say IT HURT!!!!! I went directly to the er and had to be put into a cast for 10 weeks. The whole time I knew somthing was terribly wrong, my foot didnt seem to be geeting better, only worse.Once the cast was off my ortho recomended physical therepy but because the RSD was not even an afterthought for the ortho or the physical therepist the therepy was geared the wrong was and didnt end up helping at all. About 18 weeks into the injury my ortho sat me down and told me that their was a possibilty that I had RSD and he was refearing me to a pain mgmt doctor for further treatment.I went to the new doctor and he confirmed that it was RSD with several test.I felt like I had the rugged pulled out from under me.I was 23 years old. Why?How?What now? Thats just a glimpse of what was running through my mind. To date I have had 3 nerve blocks, aggresive PT geared twords RSD,and now have finally found the right combo of meds that is working for me.We are in the process of implanting a spinal cord stimulator. My RSD has now progressed to my entire leg. I take it day by day, hour by hour, and sometimes minute by minute.I am trying a new outlook on the situation and for now it seems to be working. I mean, insted of working my behind off I am getting to spend all day, every day with the best kids in the planet. My advice to anyone who is facing this is find a great team of doctors that have experience with this.If a med isnt working for you tell them!!!!! There has been a great deal of adjusting to my meds but im at a level now that lets me deal with the pain as well as not sleep all day. Lastly educate yourself as much as you can on this.Sometimes the worst part of somthing is the unknown. Find support in people that are facing this either though local support groups or here online. Goodluck to you all and your in my prayers!!! Thanks for reading this LOOOONG entry. Comments
