I was recently diagnosed with RSD See, I have a swollen foot, and have had a swollen foot for over two and half years. I’ve been to 6 doctors and have been diagnosed with everything from clamidia to heart disease and that’s not counting all of the random nurses and specialists who gave me their own thoughts. All of my problems started when I came back from a wedding where I danced barefoot for hours. The next day at work, my foot swelled up to about twice the size it is normally. I was in severe pain. Everyone’s thought was that I had Deep Vein Thrombosis since I had just gotten back from this wedding and a long trip to china earlier in the month. I went straight to the ER. I went through a barage of tests, MRIs, ultrasound, blood tests, you name it, I had it. Everything came back inconclusive. I went to an orthopedic specialist who put me in orthodics and left me alone. I wore the orthodics for 6 months, hoping that I would gain back some level of normalcy. Nothing happened. I went back to my doctor’s to tell them I was still in pain. They told me i wasn’t following their advice or the swelling would be down by now. Finally, my doctor said that I probably just needed to lose weight. Granted, I weigh 185 and am 5′5. So yeah, I do need to lose some chub, but that’s when I realized my doctor had absolutely no idea what was wrong with me. She wouldn’t even tell me that. So, I went to a new doctor, underwent a new battery of tests. He told me he had now idea what was wrong with me. Finally. I found some honesty. He sent me to a rheumotologist who had experience with RSD I was finally diagnosed and am in physical therapy to help fix it. I am 26 and have had to give up almost 3 years of my life for this. I started thinking i was going to have to live with the pain and swelling for the rest of my life. I gave up all of my favorite activities, such as soccer and even shopping became too much for me. My husband and I a few months ago decided we would move on with our lives and adjust our schedules. So, we have been trying to have a baby, which doesn’t allow me to use any drugs for the pain, but I feel so much better having hope. Comments
