HOW MY LIFE HAS CHANGED NOW THAT I HAVE R.S.D.

I SLIPPED AND FELL ON CLEAR BLACK ICE ON MY WAY TO WORK THAT COLD DECEMBER MORNING. MY CAR PORT IS ON A SLANT SO I GAVE IT A LITTLE EXTRA PUSH AS I SHUT THE DOOR AND THAT’S WHEN I FELL AND BROKE MY ANKLE. I SCREAMED FOR HELP, BUT NO ONE HEARD ME, THEN I PRESS MY CAR ALARM, STILL NO ONE HEARD ME, THEN I REALIZED THAT I HAD MY CELL PHONE IN MY POCKET. I CALL 911, I WAS FREEZING TO, THANK GOD I LISTENED TO MY MOTHER, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE 3 GROWN CHILDREN OF MY OWN. IF I HAD NOT HAD MY CELL PHONE I WOULD HAVE FROZE TO DEATH. I COULD NOT MOVE, I WAS IN SO MUCH PAIN, I LOOKED AT MY ANKLE AND COULD SEE IT WAS TURNED BACKWARDS I KNEW I HAD BROKE IT.

THE EMS CAME, EVEN THEY WERE SLIPPING ON THE ICE, THEY TOOK ME TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL. MY ANKLE WAS PUT BACK INTO PLACE BY A DR, I KNOW THAT WAS THE MOST PAINFUL EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE. THE NURSES THERE WEREN’T, I FEEL DECIATED TO THEIR PROFESSION, I THINK THEY FELT IT WAS JUST A JOB. I WAS EVEN CALLED A DRUG SEEKER. I STAYED FOR ABOUT 24 HRS, THEN WENT HOME,

I CALLED MY FAMILY DR. AND HE REFERRED ME TO A ORTHOPEDIC DR. I HAD SURGERY TO REPAIR MY ANKLE, I THOUGHT I WOULD BE OFF WORK FOR ABOUT 6-8 WEEKS, IT’S BEEN 19 MONTHS!!!!! I WAS DIAGNOISED [diagnosed] WITH R.S.D. 5 MONTHS AFTER BREAKING MY ANKLE. LIVING EVERY DAY IN PAIN IS A STRUGGLE, BUT ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE…….

I’M NOW LIVING WITH MY AUNT, MY HOME IS IN FORECLOSURE, MY HEALTH INSURANCE HAS BEEN TERMINATED, NO MONEY, SPENT MY RETIREMENT MONEY SO I COULD LIVE FOR THE LAST 19 MONTHS. TRYING TO GET ASSISTANCE FROM THE STATE, BUT THERE’S A WAITING PROCESS IN THE MEAN TIME I HAVE PRESCRIPTIONS THAT NEED TO BE FILLED, AND MEDICAL CARE IS NEEDED, AND I HAVE GAINED 85 LBS. I HAD NEVER HEARD OF R.S.D. UNTIL I WAS DIAGNOISED. SO MANY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF R.S.D WHEN THEY ASK ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME, THEY LOOK AT ME LIKE I’M CRAZY, I TELL THEM TO LOOK UP R.S.D. ON THEIR COMPUTER AND READ ABOUT IT.

I HAD A CAREER WITH THE GOVERMENT FOR 20 YRS, I’M NOT ABLE TO WORK, I APPLIED FOR STATE ASSISTANCE, BUT THEIR IS A WAITING PERIOD. I ALSO APPLIED FOR S.S.D. BUT WAS DENIED, BECAUSE OF NOT ENOUGH MEDICAL EVIDENCE. I RE-APPLIED AND HAVE AN ATTORNEY THIS TIME.

I KNOW NOW THAT I’M NOT ALONE WITH R.S.D. I HOPE AND PRAY, THAT WE SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT R.S.D AND PEOPLE WILL RECONIZE R.S.D. JUST AS THEY RECONIZE OTHER MEDICAL CONDITIONS, LIKE MS MD, AND MANY OTHER HEALTH ISSUES.

  • My RSD - by TC - (Thu, Aug 30 2007)
I am a 43 year old women who has had RSD for 5 years now. It started in my left foot after a spinal fusion and now has progressed up my leg and hip. I have been through multiple blocks which have seemed to help only for a week, but some relief is better than none. I also had a neurostimulator implanted for 4 years, but finally had it removed this February due to the lead slipping 4 times. Each time was another surgery and now my back looks like a battlefield from all of the scars. [more..]
  • RSD/CRPS Type 2 - by Becca - (Wed, Aug 29 2007)
On 4/4/06 I fell at work and fractured both feet and my left ankle. I went through physical therapy and bi-weekly appointments with my orthopedic doctor. We were trying everything we could to avoid surgery on my ankle. My orthopedic doctor finally said in July 06 that we were not getting anywhere with pain etc. he suggested surgery on my left foot/ankle. [more..]

  • Still A Southpaw - by Debbie - (Wed, Aug 22 2007)
I’m Debbie, 47 with RSD. I broke my left wrist on March 1, 2007. Plate, 7 screws later I had noticed along with my 2 therapists that my wrist and hand looked far from normal. One of them finally said you need to see another doctor. Since the one who did the surgery briefly commented in his notes that quote, “It doesn’t look like RSD but, I will keep a close eye on it”. [more..]

  • After major restorative dental work. - by tj - (Tue, Aug 14 2007)
I had 11 crowns done because of chipped and cracked teeth. The specialist did these all at the same time. A red flag should have gone up because a dentist doesn’t normally deaden your whole mouth and put in a mouth full of crowns at the same time. 1st., these teeth looked like part of a halloween costume, 2nd., [more..]

I just find out that I have been diagnoised with RSD. it’s in my left foot—it started nealy 2 years ago–my big toe felt tingely and kind of numb.It didn’t hurt at first, but as time went on it started to hurt–my doctor sent me to a foot specialist–no results from there—then my doctor sent me to another Foot doctor for a 2nd opionion –he said that a small bone was connected to the main bone going to my big toe and did surgery and removed the little bone. Well after all that —no relief. [more..]
  • A silver lining? - by Ramadasa - (Wed, Aug 08 2007)
I was in a very bad auto accident in Nov 1999. I had brain damage as well as a damaged right arm. I worked until I was in so much pain that I would fall to my knees and vomit. Everyday I had searing pain in my right hand. I went to countless doctors and they all said it was carpal tunnel or I was malingering meaning a faker. My life was just struggling to make it through the next hour and then the next. [more..]

  • A name for my pain - by Steve - (Tue, Aug 07 2007)
After living with back pain for thirteen years and the surgeon telling me to live with it, my family Dr. wanted a second opinion. This surgeon did surgery right away. Two rods, four screws and an artificial disc were done. Was better at first, but after two weeks, walking and pain got worse. Finally diagnosed with RSD when surgeon sent me to a specialist who deals with RSD patients. [more..]
  • Have Been Dealing with RSD for 8 years now - by Ronda W - (Tue, Aug 07 2007)
I had a 50# block of metal fall on top of my foot in 1999…. I went to the doctor immediately. There was a huge briuse and a small scrape…as I had boots on,”Thankfully no broken bones, I thought”.. I would have been so much better off if I had just broke the thing. The docs in this small town actually accused me of being “drug seeking”.. My pain just got worse..with no explanaition. [more..]
