finally diagnosed

in March 2007 I fell at work and broke my foot I am an active 35 yr old and what a challenge this has been. Its been 5 months now and I am just beginning to take some steps without using crutches. About 2 months ago my foot began changing color it would turn dark bluish/purple and the pain was unbearable when in a down position it felt like my foot was going to explode and the swelling made it look like it was ready to burst elevation was my only salvation but it is only a temporary fix. When I began PT they began to throw around the word RSD thank godness for them because I went to see my family Dr. who sent me for a # of tests and when those came back with no findings she sent me to get a nuclear bone scan and RSD was confirmed.
I was upset but also relieved b/c people would question me how come if your bone is heeled you still cant walk or go to work and you shouldn’t be feeling any pain. They had no idea how painful this was and scary not knowing what was going on. Most nights including now I am awoken b/c my foot feels like its on fire but if you touch it, its freezing cold and only elevating it helps. Truthfully I am scared b/c at this point I don’t know what the full scale damage is I am waiting for a referal to an RSD specialist and according to my Doctor they will be able to tell me more. One thing that I hope is some relief from the Pain that doesn’t involve major drugs and that I can return to work and continue doing the job I love.

- 11 year old daughter - by debbie o - (Sat, Jul 28 2007)
My daughter was diagnosed with RSD, after several months of being told it was “all in her head”. Thank goodness her first specialist sent her directly to physical therapy It was after xrays, MRI and EMG that we realized it was not broken, but that her hand had closed and would not reopen. Any touch would send her into a deep state of tears and severe pain.

- Just found out about RSD - by DW - (Wed, Jul 25 2007)
It all started when I work on the ramp as a fueler, that’s right fueling jumbo jets of major air lines. Well I was standing plane side talking to ramp agent, when another ramp agent came driving up from behind me so close that there was not enough time for the person I was talking to warn me. Before I knew it I felt my pants tug and turn to see this ramp agent smiling while he was on top of my foot. He drove over the back of my achilles and ankle trapping me under the tug vehicle.
