CPRS: the condition needing “awareness”
by: LouAnn
on Fri, Jun 15 2007
It was two years ago when the symptoms first appeared, but 3 and a half years after the injury to my spine. Once the symptoms began, it was just a matter of a few weeks that my left fingers ‘died’. As the CPRS developed in my left hand the pain was so excruciating, that even the slightest touch to it would cause me to burst out into tears. After having the full circle of the diagnostic procedures performed, and also told by a neurologist that it was all in my head, finally received a diagnoses in the summer of 2005. It is in both hands now, fortunately I can still use my right hand although I am left-handed.
I had never heard of CPRS, so I began my search for information on the Internet, medical books, and medical journals and was disappointed to find very little information on this condition especially at the local bookstores, and public libraries (there isn’t any) So, I decided that I would just read about MS fibromyalgia, diabetes, peripheral neuropathies, and found this to be helpful in gaining some coping skills, as well as having a psychologist as part of my pain management treatment.
One of the biggest challenges we have in dealing with this very painful condition is “awareness”. We need our own CPRS information in the bookstores, at the libraries, we need our family and our friends to know what this condition is all about and most of all we need the public to know about it. I have accepted this condition now and have realized that keeping a Positive Attitude Is Necessary to deal with the P.A.I.N.
