I had a motorcycle accident in 05/03 that cracked the helmet I was wearing. Anyway I was unconcious at the accident site and transported to the local hospital where they removed a portion of my skull to relieve the bleeding and swelling in my brain. I was given a medcially induced coma for 1 month. I was placed in a different hospital that could handle me better because I would not stay in my bed, but after about 1 1/2 months I was back at home with my 8 year old son, Jack and husband, Jim.

Shortly after being home, Jim left me and divorced me a month later. He did not want to wait for my recovery and neither of us realized that my personality would come back and I really did not know it was gone or changed at all until it came back. Then life carried on with Jack and I and I continued to recovery little by little until I was back to my old self, but it took about 3 years. The time brought back persoanality traits as I never had any physical limitations and was back to work 5 months after my accident.

One of the hardest things to deal with was losing all my “friends” because they could not understand the injury and the change in my personality. It has been a long difficult road but has definitely made me stronger and self sufficient. And no I don’t ride motorcycles anymore…I promised Jack I would stay off of them. I take seizure meds because I had one early on and now I will be on this med the rest of my days. No insurance will have me becasue of the injury and the meds are $250.00 monthly but I suppose the positive side is I’m here. My nuero says I’ll need to stay on the meds due to the type of injury.
