At that time we did not know what the disease was nor the name of the disease! We educated ourselves regarding the disease from medical dictionaries and the future looked very frightening. Since then, my husband and I did extensive research on the disease and found that the future was not so frightening. Thanks to medication, the first five years were as if I he had no illness. In 2002 he had deep brain stimulation and it was a miracle in our lives (Parkinsons disease affects the entire family circle). He recently suffered a seizure and was told that the scarring due to the surgery caused the seizure. He states he would still go ahead with the surgery with the knowledge that it could cause seizures It has been twenty years since his diagnosis and is still enjoying life with the entire family and friends. Do not be afraid of a medical diagnosis! Educate yourself regarding the disease and be an advocate! Ignorance is what causes the fear; once you have knowledge of the disease it gives you the tools to work with it! Comments
