Ailing Mother, frustrated son

My Mother is 92 years of age. (I’m 60). She is and always has been strong, supportive, compassionate, etc, etc. She doesn’t have diabetes according to her doctors. She has been diagnosed having neuropathy Her legs are swollen and red. She can’t tolerate having her legs covered too long or use a heating pad because she states it makes her legs feel like they are on fire. Her primary care physician has prescribed Gabapentin 4-400mg daily. Her right foot is red and swollen, causing more pain and discomfort. Her b/p: 183/72/70. She has high blood pressure and has been taking medication for high blood pressure

I brought her to a physician specializing in foot and ankle problems. He suggested that she see a vascular surgeon too. The vascular surgeon performed a procedure with a Doppler sound instrument. He reported my Mother doesn’t have circulatory problems in either of her legs or feet. I have kept each physician fully informed regarding each visit and how she’s been feeling. But the possibility of finding real relief seems hopeless.

I am concerned the swelling in her right foot might cut off circulation. So far, two of the three physicians, her general practitioner and vascular surgeon attribute her condition to her age. Okay, what about relief or resolution? I see my Mother going through pain and it seems there is no answer. Maybe a gerontologist???
