To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download How long can one go without sleep? I went to my podiatrist 4 years ago and asked that he not think me crazy when I said that my toes were numb but they hurt so badly at night that I couldn’t sleep. He immediately looked at me and said, “You have neuropathy.” In the intervening time I have tried neurontin, lyrica, and cymbalta (thought I was loosing my mind) and am now on neurontin, 2100 mg per day. My podiatrist has referred me to a really great neurologist. Evidently, I have idiopathic peripheral neuropathy I am not diabetic, have sustained no injuries to my feet, and have not “done” drugs in my lifetime. I do have a low B-12 count, but not terribly low and am currently taking a supplement to take care of that problem, but no effect on my neuropathy I have been teaching for 35years (maybe tile over concrete floors is at fault???) and worry that I just might not make it through the next four years to retirement. Perhaps the most worrisome thing would be the “bad” nights when I get little or no sleep and still must function and work with teenagers the next day — sometimes with only 3 hours of sleep. I wish that I could figure out what I am doing during the day to cause such a reaction at night. The doctors say, “nothing” but… Sigh. Comments
