From Sprain To Amputation in 5 months

My husband doesn’t have diabetes, but does have idiopathic neuropathy which he inherited from his mother. He had a bad sprain in January. No pain, but incredible swelling all the way up his leg. After 6 weeks our family doctor suggested he see an orthopedist. The new doctor never took an xray of his own…only going by a month old one taken a couple of weeks after the sprain. My husband tried wearing the “trauma boot” but it rubbed sores which became infected. All the while his foot was becoming more deformed looking. The orthopedist told my husband that he felt he could get into a tennis shoe soon. I knew better. We went to another orthopedist at the end of June and got the word….amputate. The Charcot process had started and he has no ankle left. The bottom of his tibia and fibula are gone. We have since seen 2 more orthopedists who have said the same thing. Oh man, this is a nightmare!

I have a doctor appt in two weeks to see if I have Neuropathy. My left knee started hurting about 5 months ago and had gotten so bad I could hardly walk. It even hurt on the back side above the knee when I sit. I have trouble sleeping because of the pain. I have shooting pain all the way to the bottom of my foot and my ankle swells.

I was diagnosed with PN about 5+ years ago. I’m now 34 and It’s taken alot of medications to control it. I finally had to give up the notion that I would be a junkie if I used the medications that I’m taking. I can lead a mostly normal day now. At first I was in so much pain I really didn’t know what to do.

I WAS DIAGNOSISED WITH NEUROPATHY ABOUT A MONTH AGO, THEY ALSO SAID THAT B12 WAS THE CAUSE OF IT, SO I HAVE BEEN TAKING THE SHOTS FOR WEEKS NOW. I HAVE BEEN SUFFERING WITH PAIN FOR 7 YEARS AND THEY HAVE BEEN DOING ALL KINDS OF DIFFERENT TEST BUT I WAS ALWAYS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY SPINE THAT WAS THE PROBLEM SO NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAVE HAD ALL KINDS OF THERAPY OF ALL KINDS.

I have idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. There is no explanation, and I have had ALL tests possible. Next month is one year of pain in my feet mostly, used to burn up to my knees, but it has gotten a little better with medication. The pain can be terrible, but the good thing is (at 31 yo) that idiopathic can get better.

1975, I started custom insoles for my howling feet. in 1992, I quit insoles because my feet were numb and didn’t hurt. today, my feet hurt to my knees and my hands hurt in all fingers, hurt is a tingling burning sensation. at nite, I take vicodin to control the pain.
