The Unknown

by: Jenny on Thu, Feb 28 2008

My grandmother and one of her sons have died due to complications from Huntington’s. My mother has tested in the gray area whatever that means. This test result has not given us answers, it has pushed us farther into the unknown. Who has it? Who doesn’t? My brother, sister and I are trying to make peace with this, but it’s hard. Everytime I trip over something or can’t find the words to explain something I think it’s Huntington’s. I feel guilty because I am constantly watching my mom for signs. I also carry around the guilt of the possibility that I may have passed this horrible fate onto my child. He is beautiful. He doesn’t deserve to carry this load so next month I am getting tested. I am terrified, but I have a good husband by my side and we will get through this. We have been getting through this for the last four years. I’m not trying to depress anyone. I just want you to know that you are not alone and you don’t have to face the unknown alone. There are people out there that feel the same way you do. Take care and treat everyday as a gift.
