Having Huntington’s in my family

by: Debbie on Mon, Apr 16 2007

Hello, this is the first time I have ever wrote about this disease to the public but Huntington’s runs in my family. My grandmother had it and my mother also fell victim to it as well. I just recently lost my mother to HD back in June of 2004. I can tell you first hand, it’s not a pretty disease nor is it easy to watch the one you love the most go through the systems and heartache and depression of such a disease. I’m currently in the process of getting tested myself to know whether or not I too one day might have to prepare myself for such a disease. My husband and I are ready for the worst but are okay with it. We’ve made retirement plans and college plans for our children just in case I am unable to in the near future. I feel that’s all you can do is just try and get yourself ready as best as you can. I hope that people who have Huntingons in their family take it as seriously as I do.
