Hemi Facial Spasms and MS

by: G Mc on Mon, Jun 11 2007

I have Secondary progressive Multiple Sclerosis
I also suffer with (and I do mean suffer) Right sided hemi facial spasms.
I am disheartened to read that most cases are on the left side, as mine are not. Further I am actively searching for treatments other than Botox (btdt 3 sessions, didn’t help), anti seizure and benz meds (I take tegretol and valium) and am still having break throughs. The surgery every site discusses seems to target blood vessles as the cause and that’s not believed to be the cause of mine.

I also am disappointed to read they are painless. Not so with mine. After 9-10 hours I am exhausted, I have choked several times because they came on as I was swallowing (my SLP taught me to spit out food if they happen while I’m chewing).
More and more they are affecting my chewing, swallowing hearing and speech.
I would love to hear from others who suffer with these as a result of M.S. as well as hearing from anyone who has treatment ideas for my situation.
