The GBS Attack

I see the same story..I can not tell you actually how happy I am to hear others story about this rare condition. My mother is 56 years old, always a GO, Get it done type of person. About 3 weeks ago, she started complaining about pains in her leg, but again, she’s go-go! So she overlooked it, well as time has progressed, she started walking very clumsy and complaining of the pain worsening. Her regular doctors found nothing with tests, so referred her to a neurologist, well this doctor is so booked she couldn’t get an appointment until June. Again my mom keeps on pushing, even though at this point she knows something isn’t right.

Well after Memorial Day holiday, she proceded to try and go into work, mind you now she’s using a cane to walk. Well she collapsed at work and was rushed to the ER. The same as many of the stories I have read, SO MANY TESTS WERE DONE AND STILL NOTHING(they admitted her). Well the neurologist that she was scheduled to meet with this month, called into the hospital and suggested the lumbar punch or spinal tap thing. Well sure enough, we found out this past Thursday, May 28 that she does in fact has GBS I’m so thankfull that we now know what is going on, its been really hard seeing our mother go down hill, so quick! I mean I pray and commend anyone who has had to deal with this. Because she was in the hospital for 3 days before the spinal tap, so our family has been on edge, not knowing what was causing this.

TO ANYONE: NO MATTER WHO OR WHAT YOU ARE TOLD, WHEN YOU KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG, GET HELP, SECOND OPINIONS. I think if we had had any clue about this disorder, we might have known to test her spinal fluid weeks ago.
