I am a 26 year old who was diagnosed with GBS in September of 08. I was on a tour in Iraq, about to be finished with 3 weeks to go. I remember a week prior I went and got my anthrax and typhoid shot. I woke up one morning and I found it very hard to get out of bed. I then stumbled around for the day, I suddenly felt like my body was shutting down and I thought I was going to die. I then went to go to the ER, on my way to the bus my legs gave out but I was able to get up and walk the rest of the way.

I got to the ER and told them everything. They ran an EKG and some other tests and told me nothing was wrong, I then went back to my tent and took a nap..Things progressed quick and eventually I couldnt walk or talk, and using the bathroom was a struggle. I went to the ER again walking like a 2 year old just learning and that was hard. The ER again sent me back to my tent. Then the next morning I couldnt walk at all(my legs were numb). I was then flew to Germany where I was diagnosed from a spinal tap with GBS.

I was there for about 1 month. After 2 weeks I was still in the wheelchair, then on the 3rd week I was using a walker, then a cane and by the middle of november I was walking and sent back home. I was good for a while but a month after I came back my legs starting being crazy again, and I saw a doctor and they told me to be patient. So it went away after a week.

Now it is January and last week it started again with my legs, today it started getting better again. I am seeing doctors but I keep getting told new stuff, and I can’t seem to get answers….Im lost and always wonder whats next, I am now pending a med board with the Air Force and my career is coming to an end….This is a hard and confusing syndrome.
