To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download I was a Quad After a successful back surgery I was supposed to be discharged but my foot dropped and I became increasingly weak. My doctor recognized this immediately and organized a team to diagnose and treat. I got much worse quickly and the treatment was canceled. I lost the use of my legs and arms, then my breathing went. I was terrified, in ICU, spent months in the hospital, transferred to rehab for a long time and discharged home wheelchair bound, wearing full KAFO braces, very weak and uninsured. My babies were 4 and 5. I was told that it took about 6 months to recover and within a year I would barely remember. Well, I was still in hospital a year later. After 2 years of extreme plateaus and illness I was told I would never walk again. I could not accept this for my life. I began to change many things from diet to meditation I found the plateau’s of fatigue and extreme weakness to get further apart. I noticed how some foods greatly increased my stamina and mood. After four years in a wheelchair I was able to take my first steps and found myself again. I learned so much and I would like to share this. Have faith, be kind to yourself but dont be a sissy. Work hard whether it’s to get proper rest or to do your physical therapy Dont be afraid to take the medication if you need it but don’t depend on anything as much as you depend on your ability to heal and recover.
