Her life was changed forever, as well as my families. She became depressed and started to drink after years of dealing with the after effects of GBS I didn’t realize she drank every day until I was in H.S. One day, I just realized how difficult it was for her. I remember complaining that she was the ONLY mom who couldn’t go to softball games, sleighride with me, shop for clothes, etc. It was pretty awful and it was only until I grew up that I realized how difficult I must have been to raise. She was 55 years old when she came down with GBS. She passed away in 2005. I have three small boys of my own and I am frightened to give them the flu shot since a few doctors told my mom that we (her four children) should NEVER get one. Last week, my 12 year old went for his physical and his Dr. wanted to give him the menengitis [meningitis] vaccine. I was willing until I flipped over the paper that described possible side effects, one being GBS. I fought the Dr. hard not to give it to him until I researched this more. What should I do? Where can I get real information about vaccines and flu shots for close relatives of a GBS survivor. I am so confused. Anyone that can help answer some questions, I would be so grateful to hear from you. Comments
