To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Switch from Propranolol to Botox April 23, 2009 I’ve had essential tremor in my head for about 20 years. I’m 60, male. I started treating it with 20mg of propranolol as needed. Eventually that became a pill a day. And last year I was up to 8-9 pills a day - particularly when I was involved in stressful activities at work. My neurologist said that my medication level was not uncommon, but I did not want to take more than I needed. He suggested that I see a specialist at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She recommended botox injections in my neck every three months. I’ve had two treatments now. My shaking has been 98% “cured”. I still take one propranolol per day. The challenge for botox injections will be to bring down the cost. Unless you have insurance that will cover this, it may be cost prohibitive: just under $4000 per treatment. Comments
