Hi,
I’m 39 and have had “the shakes” ever since I can remember. It definitely runs in my family. At least half of my Mother’s side has the shakes. It’s been a very stressfull thing in my life as a child and now as an adult. I always thought that I would grow out of it as I matured. Well, it’s only gotten worse. As soon as someone notices and says something, it gets worse. In sales meetings, I’ve learned to sip my coffee while no one is looking….just in case. I shorten jokes before I get too nervous. I avoid at all cost, public speaking or attention to have all eyes on me. I play guitar pretty well and have my whole life….by myself I’m usually just fine….Get me to play for anyone and I’m a nervous wreck because the fear of the shakes and being exposed.

I finally asked my doc about it and she immediately prescribed Propranolol and diagnosed me w/ essential tremors. I’m on day 4 and not much yet but she said it would take a week. It’s such a releif to just have some hope and finally know I’m not alone on this. If you have what I have, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. Thanks for letting me vent.
