To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download A Young Woman’s Story I am a 28 year old woman who is troubled by essential tremors. Although most commonly seen in older persons, ET can affect anyone at any age. Some days, my tremors are so severe that everyday tasks are extremely difficult. Applying make-up, opening packages, or even buttoning my pants can often be very challenging. I work full-time as a Registered Nurse in a busy emergency room. Routine tasks that are often required in this position are sometimes very frustrating, such as open medication packages, IV insertion and CPR. Also, the emergency room is often a very stressful and emotional environment, and this often exacerbates my symptoms. My tremors began less than 2 years ago, and my doctor referred me to see a neurologist. After a thorough assessment and various diagnostic exams, I was left with the diagnosis of ET. I was provided with very little education regarding this diagnosis, and it was very frightening. Through my own research, I have finally come to better understand ET and I have also learned how to help reduce my symptoms. I have found that the most common cause for the exacerbation of my symptoms is often lack of sleep and emotional stress. Comments
