Newly Diagnosed

I’ve been newly diagnosed with ET Before I was diagnosed, I didn’t know what it was and just tried to live with it. It first started to become noticable when I was 14 and I’m now 23. I regret not mentioning it to my doctor before because it first started in my left hand and has now spread to my right hand. I also have daily muscle spasms that can last a couple of minutes. It’s slowly progressing and is very emabarrassing. I’ve also developed daily twitches/shakes of my legs, shoulders, head, and arms. My family doctor has me starting out on Toptrol XL. I’m doing okay with it, but it seems to only be effective for only 12-14 hours. I see a neurologist in about two weeks, so we’ll see how that goes. I just never thought it could be something like this because I’m so young and take care of my body. Although, I am glad that it’s not something more serious. I’ll have this for the rest of my life, but with proper treatment, I guess it will be managable. I’m just worried as to what my future holds and how much this will progress throughout my body…

Then came the times I couldn’t wait to read my “spelling” stories to the class and while I was standing in front of the class my paper would shake and everyone would ask me why I was so nervous. • Starting a new job - by Bob - (Mon, Oct 15 2007)
Unfortunately I had to start a new job because I moved to a new state. I have had an essential tremor for about 10 years, never officially diagnosed, but I know because of the symptoms. I had filled out an application, which I thought would be it, until I had to fill out a lot of paper work at the job site. [more..]
  • Essential Tremor and Blood Pressure - by Jenny - (Wed, Oct 10 2007)
For a year I have had an essential tremor which affected my head, neck hands and speech. I thought it was a recurrence of overactive thyroid for which I had received radioactive treatment and now take thyroxin treatment daily. [more..]
