seizures worsened after nearly 2 years fit free

My daughter, who is 26 has hydrocephalus and epilepsy The latter has always been well controlled. After almost 2 years she suddenly had 48 hours of severe fitting, one after the other, dozens and dozens. It has been very worrying. Docs added another medicine to go with lamictal (they wanted to add a third but the side effects were too bad (tiredness, speech slurring). Why did it suddenly get worse. She had a baby 2 years ago and I worry she will be able to cope. Anyone know about alarms you can buy - she usualy has a few seconds warning. Thanks.
