To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download My experience as an epileptic is helping my husband I was diagnosed with epilepsy 5 years ago. I’ll never forget that time in my life. I was 22 and at college that day when I collapsed and had a grand-mal seizure in the landing of a stairwell. One of my classmates caught me and lowered me to the ground. An ambulance was called and I was rushed to the hospital. Once there I had another grand-mal seizure and within 5 days, many tests later, I was diagnosed with epilepsy and my life changed dramatically. Since that day I have considered it a new adventure, a twist in the road of life. I had a very hard time adjusting to the meds, but over these past years I have chosen to make the most of it, and tried my best to learn how to live with the “new me.” It has not been easy, and at times I really have struggled. Then last year I was diagnosed with having Lupus (SLE) on top of a seizure disorder, and I’ve been really struggling to accept that. Sometimes it makes me really sick and it’s hard to cope with everyday life. I am just wondering if there’s anyone else out there that has epilepsy and lupus as well? Also there’s more to my story…. Last Oct (almost 7 months ago) I married the man of my dreams. I love him so much. This past Wed (May 7th) my husband was busy getting ready for work, when he collapsed with a seizure while taking a shower. I heard a loud thud, and went running to the bathroom where I found him convulsing, laying where he fell. I quickly grabbed the nearest phone and ran back into the bathroom. I called 9-1-1 and thankfully the paramedics were there within 5min to help me. Over the last 6 days my husband has had a total of 10 seizures. We are still waiting on the results of a few tests, and they don’t know the cause of them. It is difficult for me to see my love going through this, but I am very thankful to offer him not only love and support, but encouragement from someone who’s been there before. I never thought that I’d be able to use my experience of epilepsy to help my own husband. What a time this is in our lives. We will get through this together I know. Thanks for reading my story.
