He is now 26 years old, and speaks like he is 3 years old. Living with someone with epilepsy is very difficult. Our time and lives revolve around taking care of him. My mother stays home full time to take care of him. Feed him, bath, and everything he needs. He has become so mentally immobile that he fears going outside, so when we say lets go to the store or whatever he will begin to have an episode. He has it so constant now that its part of his daily life. He has focal epilepsy so he is well aware of his surroundings. He get them early in the morning around 6am..screams because his muscles are hurting him and they last up to couple of hours, lucky if its 20mins. One time he had to be taken to the ER because he had an episode that lasted him from 2am till 6am, at 6am, he had convulsions and he was grasping for air. This was when he took action because it was different from his usual symtoms that he had. I was so scared I had to call 911. But we do take him to a neurologist every couple months but all the medication prescribed to him, nothing has helped at all. He has taken tegretol since he was a child and that seemed to have never helped. So now I am like the only child in the family, and I will need to help my parents later on with taking care of my brother if they get too old to take care of him. It is going to be hard, but it something that I’ve dealt with for the past 24 years. Comments
