To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Epilepsy and Pregnancy I have been having seizures for about 4 years and my husband and I wanted to have kids. I consulted my neurologist and he referred me to a doctor for high risk pregnancies. At 6 weeks I found out that I was pregnant with twins and miscarried one a couple of weeks later. I was put on bedrest and at 5 months I was finally taken off. I went to labor and delivery a couple of days later and was admitted to the hospital. I had a tear in my placenta that came from a fall I had a couple of months back (preeclampsia that was not diagnosed). I had been having a lot of complications and the doctor’s nurse was not telling him when I called, plus I was prescribed medication for a urinary tract infection that had a warning label on it that read DO NOT TAKE IF YOU’RE PREGNANT!!! Thank GOD I didn’t take it! Although it was convient for my husband to go to all of my appointments before he went to work, I switched doctors at 7 months. I went back to my old doctor before I became pregnant. When it comes to your health, do not sacrifice it for convenience. I was told by my old doctor that I miscarried one and not that it asorbed like the other doctor told me. He ordered the glucose test that I was begging the other doctor to order and diagnosed me with gestational diabetes I knew that I had hypoglycemia, but when I expressed my concern with the doctor’s nurse she just brushed it off. I gained over 60 pounds. I also informed the doctor of the increase in my blood pressure because it use to be 90 something over 60 something. I was induced at 37 weeks because of preeclampsia and stayed in the hospital for 6 days. I was in labor for over 12 hours (because the cord was around his neck and I stopped dialating at 6cm) and the hospital that I went to was short handed and it was not detected until it was almost too late. I started to call the doctor myself and inform him of what was going on. He was very angry when he came to do the c-section because I got had a temp and and the nurse did not inform him of what was going on at the hospital. In the city that I live in, there are only 3 hospitals and only one is equipped to primarily take care of babies (complications from pregnancy) si I didn’t have a choice. My baby got an infection and had to stay in the hospital for over 10 days. The doctor was excellent considering the circumstances. I wish that I would have stayed with him instead of switching doctors. My child would not have been born if it had not been for GOD! He gave the doctor the wisdom and knowledge to know what to do for me during and after my pregnancy, because I hadn’t lost any weight since I had given birth. I was placed on fluid pills and lost 40 pound when I started taking them. Basically he addressed the problems that the other doctor didn’t have enough time to do. I didn’t post this to scare anyone, but to help others. Take my advice and get the best doctor that you can. My child is a healthy 3 month old boy and he didn’t have any birth defects. I took folic acid and prenatal vitamins throughout my pregnancy. I was on lamictal only had 2 seizures In my first trimester when I took meds that I was allergic to and the other one was when I had morning sickness and was unable to take my meds. Overall, it wasn’t bad at all. All of it could have been prevented if I would have stayed with the doctor that I had before. Ladies if you want to have kids, first take vitamins and find a really good doctor;) Comments
