To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Learning to accept epilepsy I was 27 years old when I had my first seizue. I was devistated. I could not understand what was going on. I questioned, (why now at 27 years old)? I’d been in good health all my life and then this thing just appears out of no where. I went to the Emergency room and they didn’t seem too concerned. When I asked about medication they stated they didn’t put people on medication after one seizure. I had a second seizure four months later. Lucky for me I was at work and not out driving. After the second seizure I was even more devistated. I cried and cried and cried . I was so depressed it felt like I had no control over my life. I’m not allowed to drive, I can’t cook or take a bath unless someone is home in the event that I have another seizure It seemed as if my whole world was falling apart. Then one day I realized, although having Epilepsy is not a pleasent thing at least there is medication on the market to control it I take great comfront in knowing that. I am currently on a drug called Lamictal and by the grace of GOD it’s working quit well. I had a family history of seizures my mother, my sister, and I had a cousin to die from a seizure because he refused to take his medication to control the seizures. He had a seizure and asperated and died. Although being diagnosed with Epilepsy is not a delightful thing, with proper treatmet it can be controled. I hope no one gets as depressed as I was. By the way did you know that Charles Dickens , Edgar Allen Poe, Aristotle, Sir Iaac Newton, Harriet Tubman, and Ludwig Von Beethoven all had seizure disorder? Comments
