My son with Encephalitis

My son now 18 and ½ years old got the Viral Encephalitis at the age 1 and ½ years old. He was in a coma for 10 days. He had seizers at that time. His case was bad enough that it did some damage to his brain. He had to relearn to walk with Occupation therapy. He had to relearn to talk and relearn to eat on his own again. He also had to have tubes in both ears. All his school years he has been in Special Education. He has always had to have a teacher’s aid. His tension span has always been very short. He went through speech therapy most his school years. He still has a hard time talking clearly and still hard to understand what he is talking about most of the time. His hearing has always been bad and he has to wear hearing aids and will the rest of his life. He still cannot write sentences correctly to understand. But he has shown a big improvement through the years. But he will always be a Special need person the rest of his life. He still cannot be left alone and has to be supervised. He still has understanding and memory difficulties. Now that he is out of school we are trying to get him into a program to help him with the rest of his life. That Viral Encephalitis can really do damage on a person’s life. It takes lots of love, care, help and praying.
