father with Dementia

by: Arod on Wed, Jan 09 2008

My father has suffered most of life in and out of hospitals with depression
He has been on different meds for it and shock treatment. Now at the age of
61 he is diagnosed with Dementia.
How do I know if this is true ? It baffles me because he talks, remembers things from when he was 16 yrs old, & he loves to be active. I am trying to cope with this but its hard not being able to take care of him the way I would like to. They say he needs more support and its hard to find a place for him that does not leave him wondering the hallways.. I want him to be able to walk outside and enjoy himself. The place he is at now does not bring him out much. Why can’t they go out for “group walks” ?
Can anyone direct me to the right place ? thanks
