ALLERGIC REACTION TO IDONATED RADIOCONTRAST DYES

by: CYNTHIA on Mon, Mar 31 2008

I WENT IN FOR A CT SCAN OF THE HEART AND YES I WAS ONE OF THE SLIM THAT HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION TO THE DYE WITHIN SECONDS HIVES, SWELLING OF THE BOTTOM LIP, AND SWELLING OF THE THROAT AND BLOOD PRESSURE SKY ROCKETED. IT WAS SCARRY THE HOSPITAL HAD EVERYONE RUNNING IN AND WITH A CRASH CART, THEY PUT DIFFERANT MEDICINES IN MY IV TO REVERSE THE REACTION. MY BLOOD PRESSURE WAS SO HIGH THEY CHANGED BLOOD PRESSURE CUFFS THINKING SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CUFF. THEY SAID I WAS VERY LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. I WOULD NEVER WANT TO GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN. I KNOW I HAD TO SIGN THAT FORM THAT DID SAY CAN CAUSE DEATH, BUT THEY STRESSED TO ME IT IS VERY RARE TO HAVE A REACTION. I GUESS THEY WERE WRONG ABOUT ME.
