…MY JOSHUA…

My husband suffered severe head trauma July 2008 in a car accident. It’s been a long and lonely year without his smile, his voice, his touch..I MISS HIM SO MUCH!

My Joshie is currently in a comatose state (aka persistent vegetative state..i hate that term..) He’s only 32 years old and we share 2 beautiful growing boys: ages 13 and 11. He spent 4 months in a hospital then another 4 months in a nursing facility. We finally made the decision in March 2009 to bring him home. His mother, sister and I care for him at home. It’s a huge responsibility but we love him so much and will do anything and everything for him.

He still has complete movement of his arms and legs. He wakes during the day for the most part and sleeps for most of the night. He periodically tracks us with his eyes when we’re in his room. This doesn’t happen all the time but when it does- it’s so exciting for us to see. The doctors prognosis is that he will not recover…BUT…we will not give up on him. Our hope will always remain a constant.

Each individual may have a different perspective when placed in a situation such as this. I’ve had several people (including doctors) advise that it would just be best to let him go. I’ve been told “Who would want to live this way?” My response was the same to each person.. “Josh is going to get the chance to live. We will not give up hope for him”… if we can’t be his voice- Who will?

My advice to anyone is this predicament would be that HOPE is on your side. Don’t feel guilty when making the decision to give your loved one the chance to live again. Head injuries remain a mystery in the medical world- NO ONE knows what the outcome is going to be.

..I will NEVER give up on my husband..
